拉圖早前在倫敦交響樂團的自家品牌推出了拉赫曼尼諾夫《第二交響曲》，是他帶團到香港之前的倫敦現場錄音。他的門生提賽弟現任柏林德意志交響樂團音樂總監，他也剛推出了同曲錄音。
不過同遮唔同柄，拉圖那個錄音是他數十年指揮生涯的結晶，他知道怎樣衝、怎樣收，怎樣任由樂隊前進及脫離刻板演奏。我雖然感覺到提賽弟有心想做出一個受控而熱情的拉二，不過還是韁繩拿得太緊，拉圖最與別不同就是可以容許亂及失控，但一切還是可以掌握。提賽弟太想幼細不粗鄙，結果連那點風味都削去了。我這樣說或者會得罪人，但拉二超過一小時，如不是有激情帶動，其實頗為尾大不掉。

Several months ago Simon Rattle put out his live recording of the Rachmaninov Second Symphony with the LSO. His protégée Robin Ticciati, now MD of the DSO Berlin, released a recording of the same symphony just recently.
To me Rattle’s recording showed what he amassed from his decades of music making. He knew when to rush, when to hold back, when to let his orchestra play to pursue spontaneity. However how hard did Ticciati try to hone his interpretation as controlled passion, I felt he held the reins too tightly. Rattle allowed a certain degree of disorder if it served a purpose, while Ticciati was too keen on producing a Rachmaninov interpretation free of vulgarity but the flavour was flushed out as well. Frankly, the hour-long Rachmaninov Second could be quite tedious without that unbridled passion.
