Różycki, Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto

波蘭華納推出，由波蘭小提琴家及指揮在英國灌錄，我聽這碟也無非是為了Różycki的《小提琴協奏曲》（軌一至二），而不是柴可夫斯基。Różycki這首作品寫在二戰時期，波蘭正被納粹佔領，而完成版的手稿在1944年華沙起義中付之一炬，頓時令這曲更添傳奇色彩，不過這作品並非今天才被發現，這個錄音只是這位獨奏家新近的修復版本、聲稱會更接近原貌而已。
兩個樂章的結構有點特別，更是先短（七分鐘）後長（15分鐘），也是先慢板後快板。音樂語言屬於浪漫派（所以配柴可夫斯基毫不突兀）。Wawrowski在小冊子說是蓋希文、拉赫曼尼諾夫，以及迪士尼電影音樂的混合，我倒是覺得是普羅歌菲夫加康高特，而又的確有電影音樂感覺，尤其是第二樂章。第一樂章是頗夢幻的慢板，旋律也會在第二樂章重現，令第二樂章不是純粹的快板。我覺得有趣並不是旋律，而是Różycki怎樣安排輕快及浪漫這兩種感情如何交替。
至於柴可夫斯基就不值得花時間聽，兩個快板都拉得太慢，尤其是第一樂章最聽得辛苦。
A release by the Polish subsidiary of Warner Classics. The attraction for me is Różycki’s concerto, not the Tchaikovsky. Written during Nazi occupation the manuscripts of the complete version was lost during the Warsaw Uprising. But this work has long been resurrected, this version is simply the latest reconstruction supervised by Wawrowski, the soloist of this recording. Wawrowski claimed this version is closer to what Różycki intended.
The two-movement structure is anything but ordinary, a shorter slow movement followed by a much longer fast movement. With a romantic language described by Wawrowski as a hybrid of Gershwin, Rachmaninov and Disney, this concerto sounded more like Korngold or Prokofiev to me. And yes, the second movement does sound like film music. The first movement is dreamy and parts of it are recycled in the next movement. The second movement is anything but a straight forward allegro, and the melodies aren’t what makes it worth a listen. To me Różycki’s pitting the light-hearted emotions against romantic sentiments makes this concerto special.
The Tchaikovsky concerto wasn’t worth my time or yours. Both allegros were too slow, especially the first movement.
