2013年幾乎同一時間,於星期日一早從柏林坐火車到德累斯頓,看蒂利文指揮德累斯頓國家管弦樂團的開季演出,是我第一次去德累斯頓,也是第一次聽蒂利文指揮布魯克納,是《第五》。
九年過去,再一次星期日上午去德累斯頓,同樣是布魯克納五。不同在蒂利文的任期即將完結,我也在六月底看過他在柏林臨時頂替跌傷的布隆斯泰特,指揮布魯克納七,那是我聽過現場最好的蒂利文演出,甚至是我最震撼的布魯克納現場。
帶着那個經歷回到德累斯頓肯定有落差,問題是幾多。這場地其實比柏林國立歌劇院更大聲,但聲音其實不夠柏林豐厚,這場的差別我相信亦和場地有關。樂隊來說,兩者相比,德累斯頓已成雞肋,沒錯是頂尖的布魯克納演奏,但我不認為蒂利文會有足夠滿足感,尤其是柏林演出已令我聽到他的布魯克納詮釋有進化。
第一樂章奏得比較斷斷續續,不像柏林那場的第一樂章聽到在每次重覆中逐漸變化的造句及質感。第二樂章我卻非常感動,我沒聽過這個慢板可以如此悲情。第三樂章,我九年前的印象頗佳,今次就沒太大感覺。終曲是爆棚的,不過傾向是音量上的爆,多過音色上的富麗堂皇。
結束時有小插曲,儘管此曲是以巨響完結,這歌劇院音響亦比較乾,蒂利文仍想延續完結後的靜默。他已經不理會一個不識趣的拍掌觀眾,但還是有人電話響,他又不能因此而不再hold住甫士,到有人叫bravo就像救了他,可以完了。
假如要比較柏林及德累斯頓這兩隊歌劇院樂團,我覺得最大的分別是在中音弦樂,即是指揮右邊的第二小提琴及中提琴,德累斯頓就是交不出柏林的結實。是柏林樂手特別對蒂利文上心嗎,我看又不是,現場所見我感覺到稍為冷漠的,然而卻是很職業的態度,便有這種效果。那次的頂替,巴倫邦去了看第二場,或者已經想過萬一自己健康不行要退出新指環,要找誰來頂他了。
After seeing Thielemann’s dramatic substitution for Blomstedt in Bruckner 7 with Staatskapelle Berlin, I knew I couldn’t expect the same in Dresden. Thielemann also opened his 2013 Dresden season with Bruckner Fifth, I also saw that concert as a Sunday matinee and it was my first taste of his Bruckner.
With this concert I’m now relieved that the antagonistic conductor would be leaving Dresden, as the orchestra has longed reached the ceiling with him. I think the Berlin players excel most over the Dresden players in the middle strings, that is, the second violins and violas on the conductor’s right. It’s not that Dresden didn’t try hard enough, it’s just they couldn’t give the same rich sound that the corresponding Berlin sections could give without really trying. Still this is an exceptional Bruckner performance but not one that could give Thielemann enough satisfaction.
Nevertheless I was dazzled by the Adagio, I’ve never heard it played with so much sorrow, making it almost Mahlerian.
